These days there are apps for almost every situation in life. Especially popular are period tracking apps, because you can keep a close eye on your period, ovulation and your most fertile days. However, some aren’t exactly what they promise to be. Here we introduce our own editorial team’s favorites.
It’s important to remember: no period tracking app in the world can replace regular visits to the gynecologist! If you have any pain, a consistently irregular cycle or any specific questions, you should head to the doctor – not to the app store. As for contraception, the app doesn’t replace condoms, IUDs or the pill either. Instead, period tracking apps are designed to help you get to know your body better and to help you notice any changes.
“Clue”
One of the most well-known period tracking apps is “Clue” and is available for both iPhone and Android users in 14 different languages.
What we like: “Clue” features an uncomplicated and straightforward design. You can quickly see when your period is likely to start and when you are fertile. Additionally, you can also keep track of sex, moods and vaginal discharge, as well as any medication, basal body temperature and more.
How much does it cost? By itself, the app is free. However, you need to pay for any advanced analysis and additional advice.
“Flo”
“Flo” is also really popular in the app store and is available for both iPhones and Androids in over 20 languages.
What we like: In addition to tracking your cycle (including your symptoms, moods and libido), you can also follow your pregnancy – in the event you are happily expecting. That means that the app can always give you a solid overview on the week of pregnancy you’re currently in. The app offers you interesting articles on pregnancy too.

“Period Tracker – My Calendar”
If you like everything playful and vibrant, the colorful menstrual calendar from ABISHKKING LTD. and Simple Design is perfect for you. Available in over 51 languages, the app is only available for iPhones, iPads and the iPod Touch.
What we like: Periods, ovulation and fertility are not always the most fun topics. The colorful design featuring emojis helps add a positive spin. The graphics don’t just look cute, they also record moods and various symptoms in the calendar during your period. Thanks to the reminder function, it is also easier to avoid forgetting to take the pill. However, the calculation of potential pregnancy is somewhat misleading.
How much is the menstrual calendar? The app is completely free, including all features.
“Life”
Probably the most visually pleasing app, “Life” is funded by in-app purchases and is available exclusively for iPhone in 18 languages.
What we like: The design is especially pretty. Additionally, the app features tracking for your period, fertility and symptoms. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the six different memory functions. Those who opt for the paid premium version will get even more options. These include a personal diary, pregnancy tracker and an annual calendar.
How much does it cost? The basic version is free, but does feature in-app advertising.
“Ovuview”
Featuring a classic Google-style look, this app is available in 7 languages and is exclusively for Android smartphones.
What we like: The uncomplicated design and simplicity of use are the key positives of “Ovuview.” You can also use the app as a simple menstrual calendar or as a support tool for to measure your temperature (either to get pregnant or to avoid it). You will get a reminder each morning to record your basal body temperature. Extensive diagrams with temperatures and symptoms displayed are also available.
