Pride Month is often about visibility, celebration and embracing who you are. That can look like different things for each of us. For some of us, this month can also be the time for a personal journey… one that invites us to explore what truly makes us happy.
At its heart, this month is about authenticity and equality. For so long, people belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community have fought for our right to live and love proudly. So this month is about celebrating the right to exist as you are, love who you love, and explore the things that bring you joy. And that includes pleasure.
What Does Pleasure Mean to You?
When people hear the word “pleasure,” they often think of one thing. But pleasure is much bigger than that.
Pleasure can be the feeling of confidence when you wear an outfit that makes you feel amazing. It can be the comfort of a deep conversation, the excitement of trying something new, the freedom of self-expression or the simple joy of spending time with yourself. It can most simply be living as yourself without question.
Understanding pleasure starts with curiosity. What lights you up? What helps you feel connected… to yourself, your body, your emotions, or the people around you?
There’s no right answer. And that’s the beauty of it.
Exploring Without Expectations
Many of us grow up with heteronormative expectations about what happiness, relationships, or pleasure should look like. Pride Month is a reminder that your journey doesn’t have to follow anyone else’s roadmap.
Exploration can be as simple as asking yourself:
- What makes me feel confident?
- When do I feel most like myself?
- What experiences leave me feeling energized and fulfilled?
- What would I try if I wasn’t worried about judgment?
The answers may surprise you.
Sometimes self-discovery happens through conversations, new experiences, creative expression, or moments of quiet reflection. Other times, it happens when we give ourselves permission to play, experiment, and explore what feels good, without pressure or expectations.
Pleasure as Self-Knowledge
Learning about your preferences, desires, and boundaries isn’t selfish, in fact, it’s a form of self-awareness.
The more you understand what brings you joy, the easier it becomes to communicate your needs, build meaningful connections, and create a life that feels genuinely fulfilling.
Pleasure can teach us confidence. It can teach us boundaries. It can teach us how to listen to ourselves.
And perhaps most importantly, it can teach us that our happiness is worth prioritising.
Celebrating Every Part of You
Whether you’re exploring your identity, deepening a relationship with your community, embracing solo self-care, or simply learning more about yourself, every step counts.
So, this Pride Month, celebrate the things that make you feel good and the things that make you YOU. Follow your curiosity. Embrace what feels authentic. And be proud in the person you are… or might be still in the process of discovering.
