The truth about sextoys

the truth about sex toys

I am just going to come out and say it. The truth about sex toys is they are fantastic! They are great for individual pleasure and can also enhance a couples experience together as well. I think they are so fantastic that I sometimes give them as gifts to friends and family; and I often recommend them to clients. Yet for many people the idea of buying a vibrator or a dildo is taboo. They would die of embarrassment if anyone ever caught them purchasing a sex toy. Sadly, they are missing out on one of life’s greatest pleasures…

When I said that I think that sex toys are great, I mean it! But the embarrassment that some people feel about sex toys results from repressed feelings that they have about sex and masturbation. Masturbation is a wonderful thing and I will be doing an entire article (or a few articles actually) on it in the future. However, some people feel a lot of shame and guilt when they masturbate. I have heard people say that it is “unnatural” or “wrong” to do. But there is really not a more natural thing to do! And for something that is thought to be so “wrong” there are a lot of health benefits associated with it.

Benefits of Masturbation

  • Healthy hormones released
  • Relieves stress
  • Produces healthy sperm
  • Helps promote better sleep
  • Releases sexual tension
  • Relieves menstrual cramps
  • Feel pleasure

I could go on and on…but I’ll save that for the article about masturbation. This article is about sex toys… so lets get back to those!

Stigma of Sex Toys

Recently, I began questioning friends about their use of sex toys. I was surprised that even in my friend group that some of them were greatly opposed to using them and believed that their partner is there to take care of all their needs. When I said to them that often couples use sex toys to hence both of their pleasure, they responded, “I wouldn’t use them. God’s already given us everything we need.” I thought this was such a strange response. We would never say this about buying clothing, or a car, or our cell phones. All things that make life more enjoyable.

It turns out that many people think of sex toys as dirty and kinky. Of course, there are some toys that would fit in those categories. But today there is such a wide range of beautifully made toys that are a far cry from the poorly made, super erotic, 14-inch King Kong Mega Dong, that you’d buy in some dirty old adult bookstore. (If that is your scene, I am not throwing any shade!). Today, there are a wide range of adult toys to fit every gender, age group, and need. Most of them can be ordered discreetly online and shipped in plain packaging.

Why Use Sex Toys?

One of the reasons that I think everyone should use a sex toy is to experiment. Most people, when honest, have experimented with their hands and this is an important step in understanding their sexuality. Toys simply add a new dimension of pleasure, reaching areas and providing sensations that are impossibly with hands. By using sex toys you are able to understand your anatomy and the things that you like sexually much more. This is very important when you are trying to communicate your likes, wants, and desires with your partner.

Speaking of your partner…

I have had people tell me that they are worried that if they use a sex toy they will offend their partner. They think that their partner will feel that they are inadequate. This is truly a misconception. In fact, I highly recommend toys that can be used both individually and as a couple. What could be better than using a toy or having your partner use a sex toy on you? Well, how about a toy that you both can enjoy while having sex? There are many out there. You want to talk about spicing things up on Valentine’s Day? Sex toys make a great Valentine’s gift!
