What you can do in the lead up to Valentine’s Day if you’re single

Valentine’s Day is a day for couples in love? Wrong! We’ll show you how to make February 14th your holiday, even if you’re single.

It’s that time of year again. Valentine’s Day is looming, and I’m already hearing the dread from our single comrades. As much as V-day can be a special celebration of love, it can also be overwhelming for those who aren’t coupled-up. But I want to swoop in with a disclaimer: Just because you’re not in a relationship, it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the celebration. Valentine’s day is the day of love! So if you’re single you can broaden your horizons and celebrate V-DAY in a way that fulfills you. At a loss as to how you could do this? Here are 3 celebrations to plan in the lead up to February 14th:

Treat yourself!

Make V-Day all about you, and treat your body. Go get a massage, draw yourself a bath filled with rose petals, sensually eat chocolate dipped strawberries, go for a long walk or curl up for a night of chick-flicks. Organise a night that you will love and enjoy every goddamn minute.

Celebrate the many forms of love:

V-day is about more than just romantic love, receiving support and love from people you are close to is important especially if you’re feeling vulnerable. Spend time with those who make you feel good. Go for dinner, have a party, plan to meet at your favourite bar, see a movie, drink some tea. Plan to spend the day with people who nourish and fulfill you!

Masturbation will never break your heart:

Just because you’re single doesn’t mean Valentine’s Day can’t be celebratory for you too. Exercising self-love is so important and self-pleasure makes you feel good. Orgasm releases the feel-good neurochemicals dopamine and oxytocin, aka the ‘bliss’, ‘cuddle’ and ‘love’ hormones that improve your mood, create a natural high, boost your satisfaction and activate the reward circuits in your brain. Masturbation is a powerful oxytocin-releasing activity and lowers your defenses and makes your trust people more, strengthens emotional bonds with self and others. So dedicate the night to self-pleasure, explore your whole body from head, invest in a new product. My top picks for a night of pleasure are the Wand by We-Vibe or We-Vibe’s Melt.

Being single is the PERFECT time to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Love comes in so many forms and exercising self-love is vital for your health and happiness. So take this as a gentle reminder, regardless of your relationship choice, V-Day is for you.
