Porn for women: tasteful, erotic and emancipated – but does it exist?

Porno für Frauen o diaries

The prolific output of the porn industry is actually pretty disappointing. The market is dominated by material that is  suited to the desires of men. But it’s all just a matter of finding the right material. The search isn’t easy, but it does exist: tasteful pornography for women.

Ladies – watch more porn!

Time to get real: masturbation is part of my life as much as eating and sleeping. And to turn myself on, I look for inspiration online. More specifically, I’m searching for pornography that meets certain aesthetic-erotic standards. But as I scroll through the entries in popular pornography portals, my desire quickly runs cold. Even the video thumbnails are turnoffs. Most of the shots are too up-close, the titles too ordinary; women are being degraded, suppressed and exposed – they are reduced to mere sex objects. I find myself scrolling through sleaze film after sleaze film, interrupted only by badly produced amateur recordings. Eroticism seems to have lost its meaning.

By now, I feel more frustrated than stimulated. Is that all there is out there? Is sexual excitement through pornography still exclusively reserved for men? I suspect us women have been too prudish for too long when it comes to celebrating pornography. After all, demand dictates supply. But with female emancipation and increasing gender equality, women have begun to express their desire for the genre. And fortunately, some producers have picked up on the movement and are now starting to make pornography whose aesthetics appeal to women.

Necessity is the mother of invention… and eroticism

One of the pioneers of producing porn for women is Erika Lust. As a self-confident and sexually emancipated woman and feminist she rejects porn that degrades and exploits women. But instead of turning her back on the genre, she decided to produce erotic pornography herself. Her films evoke the fantasy of the viewer through authentic scenes and plots. Characters are embedded in realistic stories to reflect societal diversity. This creates a unique erotic tension. Through her feminist pornography, Erika Lust also makes a political statement: women should feel empowered in their sexuality, gain self-confidence and freely express their needs.

Hustler was yesterday: the pornographic print of today and tomorrow

Pornographic expression isn’t restricted to the moving image. Although the magazine may now seem anachronistic, it is a format no less erotic than film. However, my own standards don’t change just because the medium changes. In print as in film, the right balance of aesthetic and erotic is important to me.

I recently discovered the “Jungsheft” – a German porn magazine for women. There is also a version for men by the same creators called “Giddyheft”. Both magazines feature men and women of all shapes and sizes; some are lightly dressed or naked, others turned on or posing erotically. In addition, the magazine features editorials and articles on topics not frequently discussed in public. Its publishers believe that sex shouldn’t be portrayed as a glossy product. Instead, the magazines focus on portraying people more naturally. So far, the publications are only available to purchase online, but I hope erotic magazines like these will become available in well-curated kiosks soon.

For the ears, not the eyes: sensual audio porn for women

Another hot product far from mainstream porn is “femtasy”. The erotic audio streaming service currently provides over 180 erotic audio stories. Male and female voices narrate stories crafted to sexually arouse and stimulate. Listeners are invited to indulge their fantasies, sometimes even as part of the story, other times as silent observers. Admittedly, this type of porn is a little more demanding as it requires the use of one’s active imagination. But once you give in to the erotic voices, they can increase pleasure and enrich the sexual experience.

To every woman her fetish

Whether as an erotic film, print piece or audio file, something’s happening in the porn industry. Increasingly, there appears to be a shift away from the obscene and unrealistic toward more sophisticated erotic productions. Authentic characters are finally portrayed with all their flaws, posing in realistic positions that most viewers could actually achieve. I am convinced that women won’t be the only ones welcoming this transformation in the industry. Men can also appreciate pornography that puts a premium on the erotic, aesthetic and realistic. The availability of such movies also makes it easier for couples to find a suitable choice to watch together. However, we shouldn’t forget that women don’t just like soft sex. After all, sexual preferences are as diverse as the sexual positions of the Kamasutra.
